Make Up: Lesser Spotted Goth

Psst - As a favour to an old friend, you can find me moonlighting on The Pop Culture Cynic this week discussing grown up geek and my pick of classy merchandise. Got to let the geek out somehow.

Second disclaimer: this was photographed after a full day of indulging in food, swimming, and a lazily done reapplication, but perfect make up wouldn't be an accurate portrayal of my existence.

Disclaimer: this is a short post, given that I'm on holiday and have more serious, important things to be doing (having saunas, sketching, working out how much vodka is in a White Russian) than writing blog posts. Regardless, I intend on keeping up with my update schedule, and I've been doing interesting things with make up recently.

I'm able to wear make up again, and been inspired to actually come up with more inventive styles than I would when I'm slapping the stuff on half asleep everyday. Over the previous several months I've become truly appalling getting up in the morning - historically being okay, if marginally groggy - and given full make up can take up to twenty minutes I could be pressing the snooze button in, I'm reconsidering my priorities for the autumn term.

I nonetheless love dramatic looks, even if the effort doesn't hold much appeal during daily university life; finding a medium between the two is my Xanadu. This Lord and Berry lipstick in Black Red has become something of a signature lip, as I can throw it on a bare face and still look finished. The real star of this face, however, is the Illamasqua liquid liner in Scribe; N. Finsternis is a fan of incorporating dots into her eye make up, and though I sometimes put them along my lid line this was different in colour and placement. I really like it, however, and it's so easy I could use it in my daily routine. Except bigger, and crazier.

  1. Until you mentioned the liquid liner I thought those dots were little diamantés! They really open up your eyes and freshen the look though :) and that lip colour is great on you!

    1. Thank you! Good Morning Angel uses diamantes and pearls (which I love), but this is probably easier than sticking stuff on your face at 7am. I like how it opens the eyes too!

  2. The dots really gives your eyes that extra spark. Even if the makeup is simple, it's very well worked and beautiful.
That Batman motorcycle helmet in your Pop Culture Cynic post is fabulous!

    1. Many thanks - I've always liked how white at the corners can open up the eyes, but this is a different new way for me to do that. I can't express how tempted I was to take up biking after seeing that helmet.

  4. This is a great look! I actually also thought those dots were little diamantes, until you mentioned they weren't :')

    1. Thanks! Surprisingly, I don't glue much stuff to my face, but you could equally do a similar look with face jewels.

  5. I love the colour of your lipstick, you're so lucky to have face features that allow you to wear dark colours on your lips without looking ugly.

    1. Thanks - I know some people find dark lipstick difficult with thinner lips, but drawing your liner outside the natural vermillion border can help. Other than that think everyone can suit darker colours!

  6. I love the lipstick, what a great colour! And the silver at the corners of your eyes looks great!
